End of season.

The first week of May it was the Grand finale of this seasons snow-mobiling. The plan was to have the starting point in Vouggatjålme and from there take the snowmobiles with trailer to the mountains around Merkenes.
Friday morning we arrived while it was raining quite a lot. According to the forecast it was to clear up for Saturday and Sunday so we didn't think to much of that. Gladly we are not made of sugar so we set off towards the Norwegian border after a short power nap. It was still full winter there so while driving we enjoyed the views and concluded that this was to be another damn fun weekend :) We thought so at least....After some 'searching' we eventually found the perfect play ground where we spend the whole day more or less. Driving back my brother mentioned though that his snowmobile was behaving a bit odd. It was loosing power even with the full throttle on. Next morning we took the snowmobile to a mechanic anyway, not to make it worse and hoping it was nothing serious. The bad news came rather quickly, he didn't have the parts needed. Crap! This fun weekend came to its end :( With 2 days of driving left it was more than 'a shame' it was awful...
Instead of moaning, to be fair we did a lot of that anyway, we took the car and went to Norway for sightseeing. First stop being a glacial pothole. It was said to be a big one, 4m in diameter and several meters deep while they tend to be not more than around 1m, and it WAS. Huge!
After that we drove along the coast and enjoyed the scenery with occasional stop for photography including two larger waterfalls. Time passed by quickly and suddenly it was time to get back for some BBQ.
Better luck next year!

Snowmobile in Kvikkjokk

So, been away again snowmobiling and this time we went whole the way up to Kvikkjokk. Its at the road's end just below Padjelanta and Sarek National Park. We were staying at the Kvikkjokk mountain station for the three days spent there.
For the first two days the weather was awesome, perfect sunshine and just few degrees above zero. We found some great routes with perfect slopes of just powder snow. Fun climbs in birch forests with a lot of small jumps. Just simply nice places.
The last day we set off early, weather a bit more overcast. Occasional snowing in the hills although with clear views in the valley where we were off to play :)
Going back home we started around 14, not getting far before needing to wait for the car broke down and we had to wait for the tow truck that of course kept us waiting until 20! You can say we were not pleased. Anyhow, eventually we got a rental car and were at home around 2 in the morning.. What an adventure :)
Looking at it afterwards if kind of disappears in all the rest of the fun time.

Till next time, enjoy the spring!

Snowmobile in the mountains

So, back from Kalix, Sweden after having spent almost 2 weeks up there.
Was hoping that there would be this beautiful winter landscape waiting for me there, but was greeted by very warm weather and actually rather small amounts of snow. The winter has been unusually mild and the coast almost didn't have any snow (according to Swedish standards)
While just few miles into the country, there was plenty of it, more than one meter to be 'precise' :)
My brother got as a gift from his wife few days of snowmobile adventure in Ammarnäs, approx. 400 km towards Norway from Kalix, and of course he had to have me as company.
We had few lovely active days with incredibly fun snowmobiling there. By active I mean we drove freeriding among birch trees, up the hills with loose snow and swamps. Everywhere else except on the designated snowmobile trail as they are pretty boring :)
But it is not so easy to drive in deep snow where nobody else has gone before, and you have to have a different kind of snowmobile for this. It has to have high ridges and longer strap so it makes its way through the deep snow, but You will get stuck doing in any case at some point. As you can imagine its not the easiest to dig the snowmobile out of more than one meter of snow. Not just around it, but a bit in front of it too.
So in the evenings the body was rather tender, but oh so fun it was :)We stayed at the Ammarnäs hostel which is a bit cheaper alternative to hotels, but to be honest, the standard was really high. The weather was, maybe not the best with the clouds and a bit foggy at times, but warm at just -2C. It had actually rained few days before we arrived.
Anyhow, it was amazingly fun so I'm actually thinking of getting one. Just need to figure out where to have it :)

Fun with snowmobiles

A couple of days ago me and brother went out with snowmobile's for a ride on snowmobile trails and then on to places where it was untouched powder, the goal was of course to play and joyriding. It was really fun but really hard especially when we was driving actively in the powder snow because u haft to move your body all the time if you want the snowmobile to get it where u want.
The day after I had lots of muscle soreness in my back and arms, something else that is hard it is when you get stuck in the snow, then you have to dig around the snowmobile to free it from the snow and it is very tough and sweaty .
Afterwards, we went to a lake and there we grilled hamburgers at a shelter, that kind of places u can find pretty easy and it is a nice break. All in all, we drove probably  90km in 4-5 hours. This a very nice way to get out in the nature and many does this kind of adventure every weekende up here in northern Sweden or places where there is snow.
