Croatia 2017

Finally it was time for my summer vacation too :)
Croatia, where we were heading is great, and a lot of people know of that so its' getting more and more crowded and especially during summer when everybody is on vacation.
Anyway, to avoid the major crowds, we flew down to Dubrovnik Sept 10th, hired a car and drove along the coast to our summer house.
First four days we were joined by my wife's little sister and her husband who had already been there a week earlier, which only meant that we had somebody joining us for the drinks after that the building projects had been started.

We too had few days alone before my cousin and her husband joined us for some sun, drinks and adventures. It is nice and fun to show how great Dubrovnik and the Peljesac peninsula are with all the vineyards, seaside resorts and restaurants etc...
Last couple of days of vacation we were alone again discovering and hiking the mountains and walking on the Napoleon road that goes through the whole Peljesac. To be honest, think we only did 4 km (one way) but then there is more to explore coming years :)
To do the hikes and mountaineering as we did this year would have not been possible in the middle of the summer, it is simply to hot.
It was so great that we have already decided that it will be the 'same procedure' next year - summer of 2018 here we come.

I love the nightskyes there :)

Croatia

Starting in late July and 3 weeks ahead, it was time for a long-awaited holiday at the summer house in Croatia.
Lazy days mixed with adventure and refurbishment is how our holidays usually looks like - perfect mix if you ask me.
The camera came out few times as well so some pictures were taken and here comes the results :)

Croatia

Home again after 4 amazing weeks in Croatia. I did a lot of building on the summer house during these weeks and its was worth every minute, the house is looking great.
Of course I also had time for a week of just pure holidays.
During the last week in Croatia couple of friends visited and of course we wanted to both explore but also show some of our best places. One of the places we visited was neighboring Montenegro and the city of Herzeg Novi with its rather nice old town. We have actually never been there ourselves before so it was a bit of a gamble, and surely there is a difference between Croatia and Montenegro, the later being more worn and generally messy.
Another excursion was of course to Dubrovnik with its wonderful old city. While the others were exploring the city (we had been there countless times) me and the wife spent most of the day in a coffee shop watching tourists. To be fair we ate few scopes of ice cream too, which is highly recommended! :)

Beside that, we did some wine tasting on the Peljesac peninsula (known for its strong red wines, mainly Dingac), lots of bathing and eating.
4 weeks passed by too fast as usual.

Peljesac Peninsula, Croatia

Now I continue with some more pictures from croatia and this time from the Peljesac peninsula.
Peljesac is about 70km long and 8km wide, and I really like to drive the route from Ston to Orebic because there is so much to see. The road sometimes go high on the mountains and from there it is great views and then down towards sea level again and then up through the pine-covered mountainsides and it smells so incredibly good about them, then you can hear cicadas everywhere.
And so there is grape farming everywhere and signs showing all the wine tasting places so just choose. my favorites are Dingac and Grgich.
The road is quite narrow and steep in places, so it can be scary to drive there. :))
Then you can always take the detour to all the small villages that are almost everywhere by the sea, maybe eat some good food and then sunbathe, swim. We usually do that.
From here you can also take the ferry to Mljet, is an island just 5km away and they have a  nice National Park and it is worth a visit. Or you can go all the way to Orebic and take that ferry to Korcula, which is a bit like a mini version of Dubrovnik. Well worth a visit too.
