Squirrel

I have not only photographed flowers when I have been down to the Botanical Gardens.
I also have tried to shoot squirrels with a macro lens, which turned out to not be the easiest thing to do.
The short depth of field that you get from a macro lens makes it very difficult to focus on the right place on the moving squirrels.
You do not have time to check in the viewfinder, so it's best just to shoot and hope some pictures will be good.
What is the right place to focus on then, I think, and many other photographers that the eyes should ideally be in focus.
But it can be fun to experiment a bit, too, as with the macro lens you can try to take pictures of details on the animals if u are lucky to get close to them. :))

Today I took a trip to the botanical gardens again, the weather has not been the most enjoyable recent times. So Therefore I have not been out and photographed so much.
But today the sun was shining so I just got to get out and I chose to go to the botanical. Once in place i took a trip around the garden and then I was also inside the glass pavilion where they have exotic plants, but it blooms not that much now only some individual plants.

 

Camera equipment i used: Nikon 3Ds nikon 200-400mm f4 lens and a tamron 90mm Di macro lens.

Strong winds and rain, it has been all week, and today it is blowing gale.
But today I had to go out with the camera, a trip to the botanical garden and I took the opportunity to leave early this morning. For the weather forecast promises rain for the afternoon so I did not have rain but it is very windy  12-15m / s
But as the Botanical Garden is located in a valley, so I did not have the worst of the wind.
Today it felt great to shoot, because it's been a bit tough to find something interesting to shoot in the forests. but here I always find plenty to shoot, and if nothing else, there are lots of cute squirrels :))

Early morning at Endcliff Park

I was off to Redmires yesterday morning, but came home from there disappointed and with hardly any pictures at all. I think it was the strong wind that made the birds stayed away.
But I saw the water vole and got a picture, but from a bad angle.
But early this morning before the sun had even gone up and it was still pretty dark out there so I went down to a park that has two smaller ponds.
For I was down there the night before and the mandarin duck was there, so I thought it might be still there in the morning.
But it was not, but I saw a heron standing and slept on a nest of branches. So I took the opportunity to shoot it and experimented with shutter speeds and more. The heron stood there for a few minutes before it flew away. So I sat down on the bench and to my surprise there comes a kingfisher and lands in the tree above me seven meters away. I managed to take some pictures before it flew away. Then I went on to the oak forest that is near there, and there I had the opportunity to get close to a robin and got some nice pictures of it.
In the woods I also met a few squirrels and they are so wonderful to follow.
I was Pleased with the morning so I returned home.

Flowers with the 50mm F1,8 Lens

Today I went and my wife to the botanical garden, just to stroll around and look at the nice flowers available. The weather was overcast, which is good I think when you're shooting flowers, it becomes a more even light without too harsh contrasts that it can be in the sun. Many of the spring flowers are gone but it had come up fresh flowers, so it was no problem finding motifs. And today, I wanted a little challenge myself by taking photos with a fixed 50mm f1, 8 which is very bright, sharp and provides a stunning bokeh. Bokeh is called as the picture is not in focus. When using a shallow depth of field that you get with an aperture of 1.8 it will be behind and in front of more blurred. Hope you understand otherwise you might see it in the pictures. :) The lens is widely used for portraits as well, just for the short depth of field and bokeh's sake. U can for example take a facial image and only the eyes are sharp, which gives a nice effect to the image. Because it is a fixed lens, you get to move to find great photo angles there by then it is a challenge. If you have a zoom so you can always just zoom in on the object. It may look like you have shot with a macro, but with a macro, it will be much, much closer which is nice too. But it might be fun to vary a bit, and if you could capture with macro in the same way as with the 50mm lens. The macro lens maximum aperture usually 2.8 which of course does not give as much bokeh.

Botanical Garden Sheffield

So now Iam back on track again, since we had visitors from sweden last week I havent used the camera so much.
Being "back" we went down to Botanical Garden just to see if there has been any progress for the flowers and bushes. Last time, about a month ago, it was still not much happening, but now it was green everywhere.
Nice to see :)
Unfortunately I wasnt after flowers and trees today so no micro pics, I actually just wanted to take some photos of squirrels and birds.
There is a lot of squirrels in the garden, and they arent shy so it was pretty easy to take nice photos of them. Sometimes they are little bit to close and with that i mean they are running between your legs ;) and it is impossible to take photos with a big zoom lens when they do that.
